For the President’s Picnic Colorado BKCOIX meeting, this will be a destination ride through the Big Thompson Canyon and along the Peak to Peak Highway, arriving at Carol and Bob Frick’s family cabin “Aspen Glow” in Eldora, CO.  A meeting will be held on the back deck of the cabin at approximately 10:30 a.m., followed by BBQ lunch.  Lunch will be approximately 11:30 a.m.  If possible, bring a folding chair with you.  For those not starting in Loveland, plan on arriving at the cabin anytime after 10:00 a.m.

“Aspen Glow” cabin is located at approximately 8700 feet in Eldora, CO.  Be prepared… bring appropriate riding gear.  Weather can always be an issue.

Eldora, Colorado is rich in mining history… “Aspen Glow” is a modest ‘mining shack’, approximately 120 years old.  There is running water and bathroom facilities.  The property also has river access (for those who want to bring a fly rod and waders).  Hessie and 4th of July trailheads have access to the Roosevelt National Forest (although, you will not want to take a street bike to those trailheads.)  If anyone needs recommendations for overnight accommodations, please contact Bob Frick.

Other area attractions include the “Gold Miner Inn”, Eldora Ski Area, Sundance Lodge, Roosevelt National Forest, Nederland Mining Museum, and Nederland.  The ride route will be passing the famous “Caribou Ranch” just north of Nederland.  Black Hawk and Central City are approximately 20 miles south of Nederland along the Peak to Peak Highway.

As of now, there is no organized planned ride for a return trip and plans will be determined at the meeting.

While cell phone coverage is limited, cell phones do work….sometimes.

If you have not already RSVP’d, please do so to Bob Frick at [email protected]  so we can get an accurate head count for lunch.  Family and friends are invited.
